Recommendation: First Law Trilogy

last-argumentSince I just talked to some colleagues about this I would like to recommend the following trilogy to anyone in fantasy literature. It’s not for children, it’s different and it’s… brutal. But the characters in the trilogy are some of the most unlikely and different characters I have seen in a long time. And the author, Joe Abercombie, really has a talent for very swtring characterization and the language skills to suit that talent.

I loved the books in the “First Law” fantasy trilogy and couldn’t stop reading. Try it for yourself:

WHere could you go wrong when the main characters (among others are) a former glorious hero who becomes the empires most vile torturer (after having being tortured and maimed by enemies for months), a brutal barbarian warrior who again and again is surprised by Fate by surviving unsurmountable odds and slowly starts to feel to old for that kind of stuff considering that everyone around him seems to have a tendency to die, a foppish nobleman striving for fame without having to suffer hardship (and getting plenty of that), a grumpy wizard from ancient times with special interests and… so many others. The greatest strength of the books

(And I devised small RPG rules system to maybe some day post – it’s not tied to the background but just to the feel of the novels).

I just bought this a few days ago, as a birthday present for my girlfriend. Looking forward to reading it myself.
