Our last JAX 2009 talk – we are waiting for Arno Haase to begin his talk about Drools, a business rules engine. Business rules engines have been one of the areas we have been neglecting for too long and I suspect great potential for our internal model driven framework – therefor I hope for a closing highlight of this JAX. JAX 2009: Open Source As Part of a Successful Product Strategy

Paul Clenahan is going to talk about taking an open source approach helped his company to build a successful business.  While waiting for his talk I wish him the best of luck because currently my colleague Jochen and I are the only attendees to the talk. My guess is that the wording “product strategy” sounds too much like a marketing event for a technical conference like the JAX. Paul is the vice president of product management at Actuate and hopefully has a better plan than to present just some marketing slides lest we need to give him feedback by leaving, too.

Michael Plöd starts our second JAX day with a talk about how to tune your persistence layer. Since we make extensive use of both Hibernate and JPA in our company portal framework and always like to speed things up even more I was quite curious about what he has to offer. Especially since I’m usually known as the guy who is not that interested in databases and rather prefer to talk about the actual domain model.
